Clarity

Clarity is an evaluation of the number and size of tiny imperfections that occur naturally in most diamonds. Many of these imperfections are tiny, and do not affect a diamond's beauty in any way. Of the Four Cs, it is the easiest to understand.

The table below explains the meanings of the clarity measurements used to assess diamonds. The position of inclusions is important in choosing a diamond. Some inclusions at or near the edge can be hidden by a mount and therefore have a lesser visible effect on the beauty of the diamond.

F | Flawless Diamond

The diamond shows no inclusions or blemishes of any sort when viewed under 10X magnification.

IF | Internally Flawless Diamond

This diamond has no inclusions when viewed under 10X magnification, however it will have some minor blemishes.

VVS1-VVS2 | Flawless Diamond

The diamond contains minor inclusions which are difficult to see under 10X magnification.

VS1-VS2 | Flawless Diamond

The diamond contains minute inclusions when observed with effort under 10X magnification.

S1-S2 | Flawless Diamond

The diamond contains inclusions that are noticeable under 10X magnification.

The position of inclusions is important in choosing a diamond. Some inclusions at or near the edge can be hidden by a mount and therefore have a lesser visible effect on the beauty of the diamond. Diamonds graded slightly included (SI) often contain inclusions which are not visible to the naked eye, which can make them excellent value for money.

When choosing a lower clarity diamond it is important to check the clarity plot contained within the diamond certificate. If you are interested in a diamond, graded either S1 or S2, contact us directly to speak to an experienced Divinity diamond consultant.
